Happy Xmas (War Is Over) Saturday 8th December, 7.30 pm
Celebrate Christmas with notorious in the atmospheric setting of St Paul’s Church, and commemorate a special anniversary – 100 years since the end of WW1.
The choir will be joined by special guest Matt Windle, Birmingham’s poet Laureate, to perform a selection of uplifting and reflective music and poetry. We’ll also be look towards Christmas with festive music (and a glass of mulled wine!).
It will be your chance to hear ‘FourTunes of War’ written by Ian Chapman especially for the choir. The compositions were inspired by memories of war recalled by members of the local Birmingham community who feature in video interviews shown during the performance. You’ll hear tales of Coventry bombing raids, telegraphy training, music to keep morale up and family Christmas celebrations. The concert will also include songs of peace and ‘Lest We Forget’ by Ron Dawson.
We’ll also boost your festive spirits with a selection of Christmas music from 100 years ago to the present day… featuring jingle bells and kazoos. It will be a real notorious mix!
