12 November - busy weekend

We've had the first meal in group A and the second in Group B. Check out the results!

17 October - Game on!

Group B has leapt to a well-organised start - the date has been fixed for the first meal at Chez Tickle next weekend.

The premise

In a not-at-all-ripping-off-the-tv-program stylee, I'm organising a cookery competition for choir members (Only choir members, sorry).

If you haven’t seen the program, the basic premise is that a group of 5 people take turns to cook a 3-course meal for the group on consecutive nights of a week. Guests each night award marks out of 10. After the fifth meal, points are totted up and the winner of a £1000 is announced.

There are three major changes to the TV program –
  1. No prize of £1000 (sorry), but see below.
  2. Snooping around the host’s house is not an automatic part of the evening. (You can see if you can get away with it, though.)
  3. The five meals in a group will be over a term, not a week.

The prize

Yes there is a prize, but only for the winner - this handsome trophy that will grace any home.

come dine trophy
I know, it's a stunner.

You may want to take a moment to compose yourself before carrying on.

It really does exist, and I'm making the most of having it on my mantelpiece because I don't think it'll be there for long.

How it works

  • Entrants will be grouped at a draw held at a choir rehearsal. The draw will ensure that partners do not compete against each other in the first round.
  • All entrants submit their menu by the start of the first round.
  • Group members take turns at playing host and feeding the other four members. At the end of the evening, the guests write their score on the scorecards that will be provided and put them in an envelope that will be sealed.
  • At the end of the round when all five members have played host, the envelopes will be opened and the scores totted up.
  • The winner and runner up from both groups and the next best runner up overall go forward to the final group of 5.
  • In the event of a tie, winners will be decided using a "nearest the bull" - style question.
  • Finalists must submit their menu before the final round starts. This can be the same as the first round if they want.
  • There will be a draw to decide the order of the final round meals.

The first round is this term, final round next term.
