Notorious was formed in 1997 to make high-quality make choral music that is accessible and can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of background or previous experience.

  • performs a wide range of music to appeal to new audiences (we have sung Vaughan Williams through to Robbie Williams)
  • performs in new and unusual venues (galleries, pubs, shopping centres etc) throughout the West Midlands and occasionally further afield (Belfast 2004, Cologne 2006)
  • has no auditions - allowing participation by people of all backgrounds, ability, ages and confidence

Clare Edwards

Clare is a passionate advocate for arts education and community work and sits on the Arts Council of England, West Midlands regional council, is Chair of the board of Sound It Out Community Music and a member of the boards of Moby Duck and Black Voices.

Clare currently works for the Birmingham and Solihull Learning and Skills Council co-ordinating music education and training by linking up the formal education, community and music industry sectors. As part of this role, Clare founded and now runs the widely acclaimed Gigbeth music festival.

Clare was Director of artSites Birmingham between 1999 and 2005. She previously worked as a freelance arts consultant for a wide range of arts companies in the region and beyond.

In her spare time Clare is a Governor at her local primary school and has an active musical life as Music Director of Notorious and Soprano in Ex Cathedra.

Clare is currently studying part time for a MPhil research degree in music education. She is a graduate of Common Purpose Birmingham and a member of Birmingham Future. She won the Birmingham Young Professional of the Year award and also won the the Training and Recruitment Category.
